Ever since THQ Inc. had broken up and Sega Games Co. Ltd. bought Relic Entertainment, many wondered if there will be a future for the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. After two successful releases before the infamaous THQ collapse, Sega has revealed that there will be a third iteration on the cards.

Appropriately named as Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, word got out earlier this week that Sega and Relic Entertainment confirmed the third entry into this sprawling real-time strategy (RTS) is being made. The new cinematic shows what fans and RTS fans can expect.

Unlike Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, which removed the base building concept in favour of achieving objectives that are allocated for missions, this new iteration brings back the golden age of RTS – punching out bases and conceiving massive armies that can bring the smackdown on their foes.

While this cinematic introduction trailer doesn’t reveal much of the main narrative for the new game, it confirms that there will be three main races for players to consider – the battle-hardened Space Marines, the blood-thirsty Orks; and the mysterious Eldars. Beyond showing off the deep hatred they have for each other, the respective armies from these three long-standing enemies have been showcased to some extent.

Unlike the first games and their expansions, massive war-gears are included from the get-go in the cinematic. This confirms that these infamous weapons of mass destruction will be available in-game.

No other details have been revealed beyond what had been shown in the cinematic, though according to an exclusive PC Gamer sneak-peek, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III is expected to be released sometime in 2017.

More details will be shared once Sega or Relic Entertainment are prepared to release additional information about the new Warhammer 40,000 game.
