After it opened pre-orders for the masses, Oculus VR has announced that it will start selling the Oculus Rift sans the accompanied controller at 48 Best Buy Stores on May 7 2016. This is suppose to be part of The Intel Experience campaign that will be arranged at these selected locations.

While this is only for US-stores only, the good news for this part of the world is that Amazon will also start selling the Oculus Rift in limited quantities 24 hours before the highly anticipated virtual reality (VR) system reaches Best Buy. It will go on sale at exactly 9am PST on 6 May 2016 (12am 7 May 2016 for Malaysia).

Even as Oculus VR rolls out into these two new retail platforms, it is still working to fulfill pending pre-orders for customers who have yet to receive their Oculus Rift units. In wanting to speed up the waiting time, the people behind this premium VR set have moved to offer those that are still waiting the chance to redeem their purchase at storefront retail instead. Of course, they will still get to keep their pre-order benefits, like the EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack and priority status for Touch pre-orders.

If pre-order customers picked up an Oculus Rift at Best Buy, all they need to do after that is to go to the order status webpage and let Oculus VR know the unit has been bought at retail and the pre-order will be cancelled.

Those keen to go see the Oculus Rift for themselves, and decide from then on if they want it or not, they can do so at the demo areas that are being set up along with The Intel Experience areas. Included in this outreach effort are the VR vignettes that can be viewed via the Oculus Dreamdeck and new VR content like The Climb and Farlands.

In order to properly enjoy the Oculus Rift demo, Oculus VR has rolled out a scheduling system on Oculus Live that will allow interested users to arrange for demo session at the selected Best Buy locations. Bookings can be done up to a month in advance.
