With the Sony PlayStation VR (PS VR) now having a tentative launch date, many asked if there would be a bundle with the PlayStation Move and PlayStation Camera. Well, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) just confirmed that there will be an exclusive launch bundle when pre-orders open next week.

Indeed, pre-orders will open on 22 March 2016 – a good eight months ahead of the launch. Presumably, this is to ensure that SCE has a rough estimate as to how much it needs to make for the October 2016 launch. This would, most likely, pave the way for an over-compensation plan.

The pre-order, which fires up at 7am Pacific Time (10pm Malaysia) on 22 March 2016, will feature a PS VR Bundle for selected retail partners. Made to be limited in quantity, this bundle will feature all the core accessories of the PS VR package – PS VR headset, PS VR cables, stereo headphones, and PS VR Demo Disc; Sony PlayStation Camera, two Sony PlayStation Move motion controllers, and a PlayStation VR Worlds disc.

According to SCE, the bundle will be priced at US$499.99 (~RM2,000) and will have two runs to ensure fans will have equal opportunity to get the exclusive Sony PS VR package.

In terms of videogames, Sony PS VR will have the following ready at the launch event:

  • Allumette
  • Driveclub
  • Gary the Gull
  • Golem
  • Harmonix Music VR
  • Job Simulator
  • Joshua Bell: Immersive Experience (tech demo)
  • Megaton Rainfall
  • Sony PlayStation Playroom VR
  • Star Wars: Battlefront VR experience
  • SuperHyperCube
  • Thumper
  • Tumble VR
  • Valkrie
  • Waltz of the Wizard
  • Wayward Sky
  • Xing: The Land Beyond

Keep in mind that this, on top of the bundled PlayStation VR Worlds disc, is not final as SCE did promise that there will be 50 games at launch. The coming months will, indeed, prove to be interesting for Sony PlayStation, the PS VR platform, and its related offerings.
