As honor Malaysia ended 2015 with its most successful smartphone to-date – the honor 7 – the unanswered question pops open – how does one top that achievement. Unexpectedly, the Chinese mobile device upstart addressed that by launching the honor 5X, honor 7 Enhance Edition, and honor Band Z1.

While the two mid-range smartphones are updated variants of devices that honor launched last year, the honor Band Z1 smartwatch is a step up for honor. As its first smartband, it reflects the brand’s design philosophy of pairing a sleek yet minimalist look with intuitively advanced and effectively intelligent technology.

According to Allen An, eCommerce Director, honor Malaysia, the new smartband entry for honor is made specifically for users who are always on-the-go, have a knack for being trending, or be both.

“The honor Band Z1 is our answer to fans who are looking for a smartband that encompasses both elegance and simplicity, yet is packed with powerful technologies that honor is renowned for. As a smart accessory, the honor Band Z1 offers useful features such as easy-and-quick access to notifications, health monitor, and sleep tracking. It is the perfect partner to augment your busy lifestyle,” An said.

honor looked to Scandinavian minimalism to create the honor Band Z1. In following the quieter look and feel of nature and its practicality, the smartband is devoid of buttons and only has the simple circular surface acting as the point of interaction. Even the materials used – steel that is polished to perfection and augmented to be scratch resistant – reflect his design notions.

The technology used within is just as spiffy. Among the advanced features that the honor Band Z1 uses include a soft-lit PMOLED display, an array of advanced sensors, and an enhanced capacitive sensor that uses Polysomnograpy to track sleeping patterns and awake moments.

Similar technology and design understanding has also been used for the two new mid-range smartphones that honor launched in tandem. In the case of the honor 5X, unlike the prime variant, it features a top-end specs like 5.5in Full HD display, 13MP rear-facing camera, equally as enhanced 5MP front-facing shooter that comes equipped with a f/2.4 22mm wide-angle lens, and Qualcomm Octa-Core CPU, optimised fingerprint scanner, and Dual-SIM setup with hybrid configuration for nano-SIM and micro-SIM with inclusion of microSD use. Paired with that are the enhanced photo-taking capabilities that the honor 5X uses, an updated fullmetal chassis, 3,000mAh battery, and integrated SmartPower 3.0 technology that sports eight-power saving plans.

As for the honor 7 Enhance Edition, it plays up the top-selling functions that the original had. On top of the high-end performance functions it has, honor has also thrown in a 32GB storage, 9V2A Fast Charger that offers twice the recharge rate, and the promise of future comprehensive updates that will bring the very best user experience.

Currently, honor has yet to officially reveal the retail pricing for the Malaysian market. According to, the estimation could be around RM999 for the honor 5X while the honor 7 Enhanced Edition will be locked onto a RM1,499 price tag. Only the honor Band Z1 has confirmed its price of RM259 and can be purhcased from as well as honor platforms in Lazada and DirectD.
